Halo Salt Therapy

Most frequently asked questions are listed below. If you can’t find an answer, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

What is Halo Salt Therapy?

Dry salt therapy, or halo therapy, is a holistic, drug free, natural therapy using micro particles of salt to promote better breathing, healthier skin, sounder sleep, improved physical fitness and endurance and overall wellness. Dry salt therapy also helps to alleviate symptoms of many respiratory and skin conditions. Some people may experience a mild skin irritation that will disappear after a few sessions. Some may notice a mild taste of salt on their lips, while others may experience a mild tickle in their throat, which can be easily treated by sipping warm water after the session.

Is salt therapy safe for children?

Yes children are most welcome. Children respond to the salt therapy / halo therapy very effectively. Infants are also most welcome.

How often should I attend a salt room session to experience benefits?

This varies widely among individuals, and the condition being treated is a big factor. You may have some relief after one session, however for the best results we recommend a series of treatments. Those with chronic conditions most likely need to come 2-4 times a week for the first 5-8 weeks. Those who come for stress relief and relaxation simply come as often as they like. For many conditions, after a series of sessions, symptoms subside and relief can last for several months before another session is needed. It can also be used as a preventive measure to strengthen the immune system against colds, cough, allergies and sinusitis.

Should I stop using my medication during salt therapy?

No. Dry Salt Therapy should be used as a complementary treatment. People who come often find that they can reduce their dependence on certain medications and that their episodes are not as frequent or severe. However, you should always follow your doctor’s advice and your prescribed medication regimen.

What should I wear to the salt session?

Wear comfortable clothing to ensure a relaxing session. If you have a skin condition such as dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis, you may want to wear something that exposes more skin. We do provide client blankets during each session.

Can I get the same effect from going to the beach?

While going to the beach and breathing in the ocean’s salt air is great for the body, salt therapy takes that feeling to a whole new level. The effects of breathing in the dry salt aerosol in our salt rooms are far greater than that of breathing in wet air from the ocean. Dry salt is able to move through both the upper and lower respiratory tracts where wet salt can only reach the upper airways. Dry salt is negatively charged, therefore, able to revive cilia and speed up its motion. The cilia line our respiratory tract and are covered by a layer of mucous. When a foreign particle such as dust is inhaled, the job of the cilia is to promote the mucous to travel towards your mouth so it can be coughed out. Salt therapy speeds up that process and in some cases where that process is non-existent it works to get it started.

Are there different salt therapy methods?

Yes. However, only one method can re-create the authentic micro-climate of natural salt mines. It is called Halo therapy or dry salt therapy. When the air in natural salt mines was studied, scientists found in ALL mines a concentration of 15 - 23 mg/cubic metre dry salt particles in the air (1-5 microns in size) as well as an abundance of negative ions. Dry micron-sized salt can only be generated by a Halo generator (a salt mill). In the process of being ground up into 1-5 microns, the salt becomes negatively ionized. When salt therapy without Halo generator is offered, for example with water features, therapeutic dry salt can not be found in the air.

Does a salt session affect by Sodium levels?

Salt therapy will not affect your sodium level. Breathing in salt air affects your respiratory tract while ingesting affects your dietary.

Can I read in the salt room?

Yes. However, you will have a much greater relaxation experience if you just rest.

Can electronic devices be brought into the salt room?

Please feel free to bring your smart phone, tablet devices into the salt rooms. We encourage that you place it in a pocket or under a piece of clothing as we are not responsible for any damaged items. We do not recommend you bring any form of electronic that has a fan attached. Patients who have cardiac insufficiency; Chronic kidney diseases; Any form and stages of tuberculosis; Cardiac and coronary diseases; Hyperthyroidism. In case of steroid dependency or dry state of bronchitis, Halo therapy can be attempted but with a lower efficiency. Consult your health care professional prior to scheduling salt therapy.
